The gameplay of Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! is similar to DEEMO; it may be simpler. When playing the game, participants can choose from five groups of characters. You can choose the songs in a music video game that awards separate scores for each choice. Selecting a group gives you four characters and six virtual vocalists. The notes you need to hit come at you quickly, so this game is considered easier than Deemo. The game incorporates many other genres through visual novels, gacha and scoring high. Your task is to score the highest possible by hitting the notes as they pass by.

20 characters are split into 5 groups, each with a unique story. Some characters belong to the Band group, which includes Leo/need and Idol; other characters belong to the Idol group, which includes MORE JUMP! and Street pop. There's also Musical and WonderlandsxSnowtime groups; Underground pop is 25-ji. In addition to the 6 virtual singers, players can explore story mode for each group to find their true feelings. You can use the gacha machine or a quest to become the owner of a character. Creating teams allows characters to perform at “Sekai”; owning a character gets you access to the gacha machine.

When playing in demonstration mode, you can create a team of up to 4 members. Each song has 5 levels: easy, normal, hard, expert and master. The game's difficulty increases the faster you level up and upgrade your character. You need to practice agility and accuracy to increase your score in each song. Additionally, you need to form a team with others to unlock new skills and higher overall scores.
